Ways to Donate
Since 1959, the Army Distaff Foundation has been the recipient of support that has contributed to making Knollwood an active community of retired military officers and their spouses or other female relatives. We appreciate your support of our 16-acre campus, our buildings, and our health care facilities and services. Your generosity ensures that we can continue to improve the quality of our healthcare facilities and services so that members of the American military family may receive the best care possible, regardless of their ability to pay. Whether you are a resident, family member, or friend of Knollwood, you can help ensure the Army Distaff Foundation’s future with a gift of your choice.
Campaign for Continuing Care – Phase Two
This second phase of the Campaign for Continuing Care benefits the Health Services Center, the skilled nursing center at Knollwood. The funds raised will be used to transform the Health Services Center into a state-of-the-art health care facility. In addition to adding more private bedrooms, the renovations will also create distinct activity and dining spaces, as opposed to the combined area as it currently stands. Improvements will also be made to the electrical and mechanical systems and an automatic sprinkler system will be added throughout the entire Knollwood facility. These improvements will ensure that current and future residents of Knollwood will have the opportunity to receive the best health care possible, as envisioned by the founders of the Army Distaff Foundation.
Membership
Membership in the Army Distaff Foundation directly supports the mission and projects of the Foundation and Knollwood. Memberships start at just $60 and include a number of benefits. There are several levels of membership, each with additional benefits.
Fellowship Assistance Fund
According to the mission of the Army Distaff Foundation, all individuals who meet the requirements to live at Knollwood will receive affordable, secure retirement housing and health care services, regardless of their financial resources. To assist those that outlive their expenses, the Army Distaff Foundation has the Fellowship Assistance Fund. This fund is maintained through donations from individuals and organizations, and any individual needing assistance receives it anonymously.
Maxwell D. Taylor Society
Maxwell D. Taylor Society donors are those generous friends of the Army Distaff Foundation who have contributed $50,000, either cumulatively over their life or in a single donation to the Foundation. This group of extraordinary donors bears the name of General Maxwell D. Taylor, an army general and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time of Knollwood’s opening, or Army Distaff Hall as it was formerly known.
Honor/Memorial Gifts
Consider an honor or memorial gift to the Army Distaff Foundation as a significant way of paying tribute to a friend, family member, or colleague. The honoree is recognized in a permanent Memorial Book maintained outside the Knollwood Chapel. Gifts of $100 or more are entitled to have a brick placed in the Knollwood Path of Honor, Memorial Garden, or Greene Circle. Gifts of at least $500 are entitled to a brass memorial plaque placed in the Knollwood Chapel. Memorial gifts may also be in the form of benches and trees planted on the Knollwood campus.
Planned Giving
Contribute to the future of the Army Distaff Foundation by planning a special gift. Cash contributions to the Foundation are always appreciated, but there are other creative contributions that will allow you to make a lasting impact while receive tax benefits or without adversely affecting your cash flow.
Bequests
Bequests provide a lasting way to honor the Army Distaff Foundation/Knollwood. Including a bequest provision in your will allows you to retain control over you assets throughout your lifetime but ensures that the Foundation will benefit in the future. The Codicil Club recognizes individuals who have included the Army Distaff Foundation as a beneficiary in their will.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Charitable gift annuities are a great way for individuals to receive annuity payments and valuable tax benefits in exchange for a charitable gift to the Foundation. Gift annuities provide donors with an attractive interest rate that is often higher than those paid by interest-bearing certificates and investment-grade bonds or notes. Charitable gift annuities give you the satisfaction of making a gift that benefits you now and the Army Distaff Foundation later.
Gifts of Personal Property
Gifts of personal property are particularly special in that they are individual. With the donation of a valuable painting, antiques, collectibles, and other personal property you receive gift credit and an immediate tax deduction for the appraised value of the item. The Army Distaff Foundation may elect to keep the item for display purposes or sell it at a future point in time to benefit Knollwood.
Appreciated Securities
Gifts of appreciated securities, including publicly traded stocks, bonds, or mutual funds are a great and convenient way for donors to avoid certain taxes that may arise due to the sale of securities and provide a valuable gift that the Foundation can utilize immediately when the security is sold. Once you transfer the securities to the Army Distaff Foundation, you receive gift credit and an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer, regardless of what you originally paid for them.
Retirement Assets
Naming the Army Distaff Foundation as the beneficiary of your retirement assets is one of the best ways to give because you can avoid both the income and estate taxes levied on the residual left in the account. You can continue withdrawals from the account throughout your lifetime, and any residual left in the plan will pass to the Foundation tax-free.
Life Insurance
Make a gift to the Army Distaff Foundation with a paid-up life insurance policy you no longer need. The Foundation can either cash the policy immediately or maintain it and receive the death benefit later, and you will receive an immediate tax income deduction for the cash surrender value of the policy.
Real Estate
You can make a substantial gift and receive tax savings by transferring the deed to your home, commercial building, or undeveloped real estate property to the Army Distaff Foundation. The Foundation will sell the property and use the proceeds for its programs; either way, you receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the real estate, regardless of what you originally paid for it.
