About the Area

Knollwood's convenient location provides the best of both worlds -- the cultural amenities of our nation’s capital with the quiet tranquility of a country estate. Overlooking beautiful Rock Creek Park in upper northwest Washington, D.C., Knollwood is minutes away from Walter Reed, Bethesda Naval Hospital, shopping, dining, and much more.

Transportation

Knollwood has two buses used solely for the transport of residents to local events, shopping, commissaries, post exchanges, public grocery stores, Walter Reed, and more. For all other transportation needs, a public Metro bus stops at Knollwood’s front door and connects to the local subway station (E6 bus to Friendship Heights station on the red line). Whether you want to visit a museum downtown or head to Reagan National Airport, the D.C. subway system will get you there. There is also ample parking on the Knollwood campus for those residents who choose to have a vehicle.

Restaurants

As an international hub, the food selection in Washington, D.C. is sure to cater to any culinary aficionado or hungry diner. Cuisine choices range from French to Mediterranean to Latin while price ranges vary just as much. Knollwood's "Lunch Bunch" picks a new spot to try each month, from top Zagat-rated restaurants to neighborhood favorites down the street.

Outdoor Recreation

One of the timeless amenities offered at Knollwood is its park-like setting. Not only does Knollwood sit on a rolling 16-acre wooded and landscaped campus, but Rock Creek Park, the country’s second largest urban park, is right across the street. Maintained by the National Park Service, Rock Creek Park features a public golf course, riding stables, ball fields, picnic areas, and miles of paved trails for walking, bicycling, or jogging. Other outdoor attractions throughout D.C. include the National Mall and numerous monuments and memorials. Maryland and Virginia also feature nationally known sites including Arlington Cemetery, Shenandoah National Park, and a number of historical Civil War landmarks and battlegrounds.

Museums

Home to the Smithsonian Institution, D.C. is home to a number of different museums sure to peak any interest. Museums range from art galleries, like the National Portrait Gallery, to history, like the Natural History Museum, to cultural, including the new Newseum. Performing Arts

Washington D.C. is home to a very vibrant, prominent performing arts scene, which includes ballet, opera, theater, and a wide variety of musical offerings. There are a number of theaters throughout the metro area including the National and Warner Theaters, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Arena Stage, and Wolf Trap, America’s National Park for the Performing Arts.
